What is Ayurveda?
Ayurveda is a person centered holistic science that helps us to understand how to live life to full human potential. Ayurveda means life wisdom that has its root in ancient India and is one of the oldest healing systems on our planet. It is an art of living, which is evolved from practical, philosophical and spiritual illumination rooted in the understanding of creation. Ayurveda focuses on each person’s physical and emotional nature, which is the foundation of health and happiness.
What are Doshas?
Doshas are factors that produce the physical body and are responsible for its substance and its functions. Dosha maintain the normal psychophysiology. Vata Pitta and Kapha are the three doshas, when they work in harmony they maintain the balance in our body. The moment they are in imbalance they cause dis-ease in our body.
What is Body Type?
Body type or Prakruti is the combination and proportion of Vata, Pitta and Kapha in our body. Each person is different and has unique body type that is the psychophysical make up and functional habits of a person. Each body type has its benefits and weaknesses.
There are seven different types of Prakruti – Vata, Pitta, Kapha, Vata Pitta, Vata Kapha, and Pitta Kapha.
What do I do after I know my body type?
Knowing your self is the first step towards health. Once you know your body constitution the next step is to maintain it by doing adjustments in Food, exercise, lifestyle. Ayurveda is a preventive science that explains how to take care of our self and not wait until we fall sick. Having a routine and changing this routine as per season helps in maintaining health.
What do I eat?
Matter consist of five elements – Space, Air, Fire, Water and Earth
Five elements are the basic principles of Ayurveda. The six tastes- Sweet, Sour, Salty, Bitter, Spicy and Astringent are formed from the various permutations of the elements.
Ayurvedic Nutrition consists of these six tastes and twenty attributes. Ayurveda recommends to eat as per ones body type.
